Google’s DevFest 2011 for Southeast Asia ended on a high with a 2 day conference in Jakarta at the JW Marriott Hotel.

300-400 developers and Google tech users from around Southeast Asia turned up and represented those with start ups, enthusiasts, Android users, Google + converts, blogger and many many more.

The main topics at the event were of course the Google + social networking platform, which has received some significant updates such as geotagged photos, Android OS, HTML5 (due to Adobe packing in Flash for mobile devices) and the rest of the Google Apps the search giant has to offer.

The Angry Birds franchise has taken the world by storm with its simple, but addictive game play and seasonally themed versions of the game.

Of all the versions available, from Christmas Angry Birds Seasons to the Halloween version, non have proven to as popular at Angry Birds RIO, the game based on this year’s animated bird movie!

One of the best things about the Angry Birds games is that they don’t require the most cutting edge technology available to play and enjoy them, meaning the game will run on pretty much every Android phone and tablet ever created, including the hundreds of cheaper Chinese made tablets.

Blackberry have finally done an Apple and opened a ‘Lifestyle’ store in Indonesia. The new store which opened which is located at Mal Kelapa Gading 3 in Jakarta, had a promotional offer of a %50 percent saving on any Blackberry device for the first 250 customers through the doors.

RIM have followed Apple with their new store by offering plenty of space for customers to get some hands on time with the various Blackberry devices such as the new touch phones and the Blackberry Playbook.
The store also features large LCD screens which allow customers to demo Playbook games and apps on the big screen.

In 2012, humanity managed to achieve the long sought-after dream of eternal youth thanks to “Eternum”, a compound created by NextGenetics as a result of their important advances in genetic engineering. “Eternum” could make the cells of the human body regenerate without a single imperfection, stopping the tissues in the body from aging and enabling people to live practically forever. A regular dose of “Eternum” prevented the body from getting old. The prohibitive price with which the product was launched into the market only served to increase the differences between social classes, since only the most powerful families could afford to buy it.

This turn of events lit the fuse of collective madness; furious crowds spilled out onto the streets, fed up of governments and a capitalist system that was asphyxiating them, fed up of being treated like slaves by the powerful families that controlled all the money and power of the world. They demanded that a discovery such as this should be within the reach of all citizens; everyone deserved to be blessed in the same way.

With the help of Last Dawn sect, Norman Dickinson, the latest Nobel prize for genetic engineering, created a compound capable of altering the genetic structure of “Eternum”, converting the elixir of eternal youth into a mortal poison that inverted the process of regeneration, causing the body of anyone who took it to quickly rot.

At the end of 2012, Last Dawn managed to break into the premises of NextGenetics and sabotage the production of “Eternum” by mixing it with Norman Dickinson’s compound, creating the poison known as “Mortalis”. The new compound had been ingested by hundreds of people before the terrifying truth was discovered. What was happening caused a great reaction among the powerful families, who were enraged by this act of rebellion that was being displayed by who they considered to be “their herd of animals”.

Motivated by the sweet taste of revenge, they hired a group of geneticists to collect samples of “Mortalis”, synthesize it, and create a powerful bacterium that could be transmitted by blood. The plan was to slowly decimate the huge army of indignant citizens, demonstrating once and for all, who the absolute sovereigns were.

The bacterium produced by the synthesis spread without control, wiping out a large part of humanity in just a week.

Extremely upset by their error of calculation, the great families regretted causing the catastrophe, as such a small society would not be enough to satisfy their voracious hunger for power… but this was not the only error of calculation they had made. Just over a month later, unexpected secondary effects appeared: the dead began to rise from their graves converted into zombies who were hungry for fresh meat, causing frenzy among the few survivors, whose only hope is to eliminate all the infected people and rebuild a new world.

HTC have just launched the fantastic Rhyme Android smartphone in India, but have redesigned the popular phone especially for the ‘ladies’.

Huawei are one of the biggest Android handset makers in the world and they are coming to a country near you soon!
The latest market to get some Huawei Android Phone magic, is India, which will soon be receiving 2 new Android phones from the Chinese manufacturer.

The two model are the Huawei Sonic, and the Huawei Ideos X3, both of which could be India’s first cloud storage enabled Android devices thanks to the company’s free cloud storage deal on offer with every phone or tablet bought.

Both phone are pretty well spec’d in the hardware department and come with all the most popular social networking apps built in from Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.

The Huawei Sonic, priced at INR 9210, has a 3.5” HVGA screen, 512 MB internal storage and up to which can be expanded with cloud storage of SD cards.

The Ideos X3 comes gets the same screen and the memory as the Sonic, but is slightly more expensive at INR 10,229.It includes Gmail, GTalk, Google Maps and Youtube.

If you happen to be in China and rely on your smart phone or tablet to get you around when you are lost, you may well know just how sporadic Google Maps can be. I and my friend who have been using Google Maps have also found that getting directions on either iPhone or Android device can also be a little hit and miss.

But those days might be behind us as China search engine Baidu have finally brought a satellite view to their mapping service, which is not only likely to be more reliable than Google version, but also offers crisper, clearer satellite images.

Baidu official adding this feature to their mapping service may well mean the end for Google Maps in China who have still to receive their mapping license!

Huawei are most famous in China and India for producing extremely well made, solid Android smart phones at very low prices, they also happen to be one of the largest manufacturers of communications equipment in the world!

As Huawei is growing at a rather rapid pace the Chinese communications giant is looking for ways to build a larger, meatier portfolio to lure in more enterprise customers.

The buyout will see Huawei buying the remaining 49% share of Symantec, the makers of the popular anti-virus software. While it may seem at first glance that Huawei are the only ones to benefit from the deal, the buyout will actually help out Symantec since they have been reporting huge losses of $123 million!

Back in the ‘Good old days’ we had to wait months to learn what the next gadget was going to be, then we would have to wait even longer to see the thing in real life and determine just how good it is!

Those days a long behind us now though, and Taiwans’s Asustek have really gone out of their way to ensure their Transformer Prime Eee Pad has been leaked, photographed and foddled at every possible oppertunity!

The Prime is currently schedueld for a December launch date, after Google and Asus decided to team up and give the Quad Core Tegra 3 Kal El powered tablet some Android 4.0 Ice-cream Sandwich love, but despite that fact we have another month to wait and see it, someone has already had a chance to play with the latest Asus device.

What is the Asus Transformer Prime Eee Pad?

For those of you who don’t know what the Transfromer Eee Pad is, it is basically the missing link between a netbook and a touch screen tabelt, but in the case to the Prime it is more like a high end laptop with a detachable keyboar, touchscreen, great cameras all for a super low $499 retail price!

If these rumors turn out to be true we could be in for an Apple double whammy in 2012 with the launch of a larger 4-inch screened iPhone 5, and possibly even a smaller and low priced 7-inch iPad!

While it’s pretty same to assume that the iPhone will in fact be the real next generation iPhone 5, it is difficult to guess what a smaller 7-inch iPad might be called. iPad 3 would more than likely be a 9.7 inch, or possible 10.1-inch tablet, but a 7-inch iPad could well be the much anticipated iPad Nano!

The rumors about the next generation iOS screen sizes applarently came derectly from Korea’s LG. It makes sence that LG would be working on the screens, but it is still to be determined as if these claims are indeed true!
